Daily Schedule
8:00 – 9:00am CHILD CHOICE –In half of the classroom, spaces and activities will be designed for small groups of children to explore.
9:00 – 9:15am CIRCLE TIME – Children gather at circle for whole group time. At this time children and teachers partake in a welcome song, attendance, listen to a story, and morning center activities are introduced. This is a time when children can share new concepts of interest and news.
9:15 – 10:15am CENTER BASED ACTIVITIES – Center based activities are consistent with the Rhode Island Early Learning and Development Standards (RIELDS). These experiences are available for children to explore at their own pace. Children are encouraged to participate in all learning centers represented in the main domains (creative arts, math, science and language). Teachers and children work together in small groups. Teachers provide support and guidance while encouraging conversation through scaffolding and observations. Thoughtfully planned activities are available for one week to foster a smooth learning pattern and expansion on prior goals.
10:15 – 10:30am GROUP TIME – Children will be separated into 2 small groups (i.e., pre-k friends and preschool friends). Children will engage in developmentally appropriate “jobs.” The calendar, weather, and other activities are done at this time.
10:30 –11:00am MORNING SNACK TIME – Snack time includes toileting “potty checks” and handwashing. To limit surface contact, children will retrieve their lunch box from their cubby and place their snack on a napkin. Snack and lunchtime will take place in small groups around the classroom. Teachers will sit with children to promote table manners and support conversation at these times.
11:00 – 11:45am OUTDOOR PLAY – Children may participate in group games, nature hikes, or free play with playground equipment. Teachers bring the classroom outside daily (i.e., blocks, dinos, musical instruments, easels, chalk, manipulative trays). Opportunities for individual and small groups are provided and teachers interact with children while supervising play.
11:45am – 12:00pm LUNCH TRANSITION - Children are divided into small groups and partake in transition activities before lunch (i.e., games, stories, puzzles). Children prepare for lunch (i.e., toileting and handwashing). PRE-K SMALL WORK TIME – This time will be utilized for pre-k writing/math experiences; cooperative engagement and science/social studies experiences.
12:00 – 12:30pm LUNCH TIME – Teachers sit with children during this time to foster manners, engage in conversation, and model mealtime expectations.
12:30 – 12:50pm SMALL GROUP TIME – Transition tray activities are provided including journal writing, wipe-off boards, graphing, etc. This time is utilized to assess and reinforce specific individualized learning goals.
12:45 – 1:00pm HALF-DAY PICK UPS – Parents/guardians arrive; children gather their belongings. A teacher will sign the child out, and greet their parent/guardian at the door. Teachers will communicate about their child’s day at pickup or via Remind.
1:00 – 1:15pm REST AND GROW TRANSITION TIME – Children use the toilet and choose a book for rest and grow time.
1:15 – 2:45pm REST AND GROW TIME – Cots/mats are spaced around the classroom. Children look at their book and enjoy quiet music. Children who do not sleep/have outgrown their nap are given quiet activities to do on their cots (i.e., lacing cards, foam blocks/manipulatives). Children are invited to bring a stuffy from home to have for the week. All rest time items are stored in a large labeled bag; all items are sent home on Friday to be laundered.
2:45 - 3:00pm Children help teachers put their belongings into their rest time bags, toilet and wash hands for afternoon snack.
3:00 - 3:15pm AFTERNOON SNACK - To limit surface contact, children will retrieve their lunch box from their cubby and place their snack on their placemat/napkin. Snack takes place in small groups around the classroom. Teachers will sit with children to promote table manners and support conversation at these times.
3:15 - 3:30pm AFTERNOON CIRCLE - Children participate in an afternoon group time and prepare for outdoor play (toileting, sunscreen*, etc.)
3:30 - 4:15pm OUTDOOR PLAY - Children enjoy outdoor play
4:15 - 4:30pm QUIET ACTIVITIES - Children come in from outside, wash their hands and faces. Quiet areas are set up in the classroom to foster a calm ending of the school day and to ease pick up transition time. Parents/guardians are invited to come inside to pick up their child; a teacher signs the child out and informs parent/guardian about their day.
Hand washing protocol is followed:
o upon entering o prior to leaving
o before/after each meal/snack o before/after sensory play
o after toileting o after outside time
• Classroom surfaces are cleaned and sanitized throughout the day following stringent CDC guidelines.
• Shared materials are cleaned and disinfected daily (i.e., dishwasher, spray disinfectant, bleach and water solution).
This schedule is subject to change when special events occur such as birthday/holiday celebrations, ski lessons, Story Hour, Tumblebus, Fiddle N’ Fun etc., and is responsive to individual needs of children.
Throughout the school day, classroom teachers meet with individual children to foster the development of positive relationships. This time is also used for documentation and child assessment.
